During last April, an unprecedented record of temperature over 40 Degrees Celsius has been recorded on 14 days.
Indian Weather Bureau has termed them as super hot days. In most of the urban localities in Chennai Metro. The temperature was 39.7 Degrees Celsius.
Leaving aside the coastal areas in Chennai, the interior areas recorded a uniform temperature of 37.4 Degrees Celsius.
The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed the temperature from 1st May exceed by 2 to 3 Degrees Celsius.
A private weather forecaster explained that right from the year 2009, the temperature recorded during summer has been gradually rising. Last year, there were 9 urban sections of the Chennai Metro which experienced scorching summer.
The Assistant Director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre informed that the temperature from 1st May will be higher than the usual by 2 to 3 Degrees Celsius. The average temperature will rise gradually. The cities tend to be hotter than villages mainly because of the acute shortage of trees and urban hot pocket areas.
