The department of school education has announced that no change be done to extend summer holidays for government primary schools.

In government secondary and higher secondary schools, the teachers are bound to compulsorily work for 200 days minimum. In primary and middle schools, the total compulsory working days is 220.

For higher secondary schools, the summer holidays will begin on 15th April. For primary schools, it starts on 1st May. However, due to the heavy impact of the sun, there were pleas to prepone summer holidays for primary students and start it from 15th April.

The Teachers Association had submitted a petition to the School Education Department and minister. The department however has denied accepting the plea. In higher secondary schools 5.5 hours of classroom sessions take place. Accordingly, in these 200 working days, 1,100 classroom sessions take place.

In primary schools, only 5 hours of classroom sessions take place and hence they require 220 working days to complete 1100 hours of classroom sessions.

Hence, there is no chance of preponing summer holidays or reduce total number of working days of primary schools, say sources from the school education department.
