Dos and donts during the Summer Vacation

Children:
During the summer vacation, the children like to spend extra time on the bed and so get up late - this is more pronounced during the longer summer vacation. However, this is not a good habit. It is always better to get up as per the usual times on the school working days – better go for a brisk walk or play games – but do not spend that extra bit of time lying on the bed – never.

Instead, develop the habit of reading newspapers: learn more about what is happening in national and international events.

Try to improve your vocabulary – learn a few new words every day – Especially, learn how to use them.

Learn some worthwhile and beneficial pastime. Spend some time on it daily.

In case, you are of your weakness in any subject, approach your seniors or teachers to improve by learning with guidance. This will improve your self-confidence with more confidence.

Try to organise your things and your place systematically. Remove and throw unwanted things away. Give any old books to some children who deserve it.

Try doing some little social service. Ask your parents to take you to old age homes and spend some time with the senior citizens engaging them in conversations.

Wrap all your books and notebooks for the new classes neatly and label them.

Do not send time on video games and smartphones. The long time spent on them will to numb your senses and will tend to make you more mechanical.

Parents:

Time and affordability permitting, take your children to some short tours. Tours need not be in a grand manner or luxurious. Even some nearby unknown places may bring you some entertainment and new knowledge. The children get more cheerful and enjoy in simple and natural things.

Try sending your children to your parents home for a small vacation. Let them realise and enjoy that there is a world away from computers and smartphones.

Give them some minor domestic tasks such arranging the beds or the room. Or even cleaning the shelf/almirah/wardrobe. Teach them some basic aspects of cooking.

Try to spend at least an hour every day with your children. Share your childhood memories. Listen to them intently. Have your eating sessions always together.

If possible, take your children to your workplace. This will give them an idea about your efforts for the family.
