The term Chitra Pournami is often uttered in the world of Hindus in India. What exactly is that? Chitra is a Tamil month between April and May months. The full moon on this day and the exalted sun lying in the Aries sign is what we call Chitra Pournami.
During last year, the full moon night was observed on 21st of April when the full moon was aligned on Chitra star – the most shining star – in the Libra constellation. On this day, the moon’s brilliance is magnified.
The full moon:
This day is considered highly special because of its impact on people’s attitude. This will induce creativity and positive thoughts. People will feel highly positive and stay avid and conscious, and they feel super-excited about emotions and sentiments.
The Exalted Sun:
An exalted sun marks the beginning of the solar calendar. This is said to be the ideal position on the sky and will fetch beneficial results to the earth. The sun is mighty and brings all the good effects.
Chitragupta:
The assistant of lord Yama is called Chitragupta. He is said to keep all records of good deeds and bad deeds humans do on earth. When someone on earth dies, Chitragupta will at once refer his records of good and bad deeds done by the person and send the information to lord Yama to make the final call about the person’s soul.
In another meaning, Chitragupta is called the hidden deeds of humans. On Chitra Pournami, the earth plane receives tremendous energy from the sun and moon. This will have profound impact on humans. So, according to the Chitragupta concept, he will be vigilant on human activities on earth, and hence humans should not commit any sin on such auspicious days. So, people will only perform good activities and preserve goodness in their minds.
During an argument between lord Indra and his teacher Brihaspati, India failed to agree to his teacher’s advice. From then, Brihaspati got reticent and ceased advising Indra. So, Indra started making mistakes. After many days of absence, Brihaspati returned and wanted Indra to go on a pilgrimage to earth for reducing the burden of all the sins he had done. Once he got into the world of earth, he got to know that he had redeemed all the sinful activities he did, and believed lord Shiva to have absolved him out of all the bad deeds. Indra then identified lord Shiva linga and started praying on Chitra Pournami with lotus flowers.
