Chennai Metro: Public service between Koyambedu and Nehru Park from tomorrow (14th May)

The Chennai Metro Rail project authorities have announced that the public service for the section between Koyambedu and Nehru Park, covering a distance of 7.4 km, will commence from tomorrow (Sunday, 14th May).

The Chief General Manager Tunnelling) of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, Mr. V. K. Singh, explained that the Safety Inspection Department had conducted thorough tests on this track section in different stages and has given the approval that public service can commence.

Subsequently, the public service for Chennai Metro between Koyambedu and Nehru Park will commence tomorrow (14th May).

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu E Palanisamy and central government urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu will participate on this occasion.

Tunnelling has been done at 20 metres below the ground level and the railway stations have been constructed. Above the station floor, ticket counters, customer service, and safety centres are located.

Emergency exits have been set up across the track at an interval of every 250 metres.

Firefighting equipment and gadgets have been installed at suitable places. A customer footpath has been set up along the track in order for the public to walk out during any emergency situations. Provision has been made for the smoke to escape in case of any fire accidents. Though sufficient lighting is provided, there are some solar light panels also installed.

As backup facilities like UPS (Uninterrupted Power Service) and generator are available, there are no chances for any power failure.

In the next phase, the public service is to be extended from Nehru Park to Central Railway Station.
