I do not support any political party, says Rajinikanth. Read on for more:
After almost 8 years gap, the Superstar met his fans yesterday, the 14th May.
After M.G. Ramachandran, the 66-year old opened up about stepping into politics, a topic that has been making the rounds for years right from the day he endorsed alliance between Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Tamil Maanila Congress.
The meeting was arranged through Rajinikanth Rasigar Mandram (fan club). There are more such meetings scheduled in the following days as well.
Below is an excerpt from Rajinikanth’s Sunday speech.
It is often said that Rajinikanth will keep changing his mindset without taking a concrete decision. He is afraid and hesitates, say everyone. Well, before I comment on any of these, I think a lot before taking any decision. At times, problems start only after taking final calls. So, I tend to think a lot.
Say, we are stepping into the pool of water without knowing the presence of too many crocodiles inside. There is no space for you to say that you won’t go back from your decision. You are left with no choice than to go back. Those who talk and comment will continue doing so.
There is one more opinion about me that I talk only when I have a movie set for release. I do some stunts and comment on things just to make the movie a success. I need not resort to these activities.
Only when it is cooked, a grain will turn into rice. Likewise, only a good film will become a success. There is no use of doing somersaults.
If I am standing before you now, it is all because of the directors and producers who have given good stories and scripts, good roles and songs to me that have altogether made good films.
Regarding his opinion and support for politics, he says he was cornered to show support to a party 21 years ago. The alliance got electoral victory. Since that point, I have always been said to be associated with politics and many of my fan are involved in politics too.
Every time there is an election, there are people seeking support. So, I will have to come forward and explain that I am not supporting anyone.
I am neither a great political leader nor a social activist for whose support everyone is waiting. I do not support anyone. Please do not vote to anyone who claims to have my support – it must be fake.
Some of my fans ask me why don’t we become a politician like MLA or minister and earn a lot. There is nothing wrong in wanting to become a politician, but not with an aim of earning money. I do not know how to react, whether to laugh or get angry or feel sad. I am subservient to god and I should keep myself clean, healthy and with pure heart.
I feel myself as god’s tool. I am being used as an actor and tomorrow I might be used in any other way, I do not know.
It is god who does everything. Nothing is in my hands. If there are circumstances that want me to enter the politics, I will not leave any room for such persons to near me.
