There are 21 government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. Out of this, 13 colleges offer postgraduate medical courses.
Keeping aside the All India quota of 50 percent seats, the state government has a quota of 562 seats for postgraduate medical courses (MD and MS) and 200 seats for postgraduate medical diploma courses.
There is a government quota of 19 seats for postgraduate medical courses in dentistry (MDS) in the Chennai dental medical college.
The 1st Phase counselling for admission to the above seats for the academic year 2017-18 was conducted from 8th May to 11th May. At the end of the counselling session, 40 seats were yet to be filled in the medical postgraduate courses and 2 seats in the postgraduate medical course in dentistry remained unfilled.
Subsequently, the counselling for admission to 604 seats for postgraduate medical courses in 8 deemed universities was conducted from 18th to 20th May. During the 3 days counselling session, 451 seats were filled. 153 seats are vacant.
Now, the counselling for the seats in the state government administration quota in 7 private medical colleges for postgraduate medical courses is scheduled to be conducted today (22nd May) and tomorrow (23rd May) at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital, Chennai.
Over 2000 candidates have been invited to participate in this counselling session.
Aft 2.00 PM tomorrow, the counselling for admission to 2 seats vacant in the Tamil Nadu government dental college after the 1st phase counselling, the seats in private dental colleges and the dental colleges under Annamalai University.
Subsequently, the 2nd phase of counselling for the 40 vacant seats in the government medical colleges after the 1st phase counselling and the government quota of seats in private medical colleges and Annamalai University is scheduled from 24th May.
