The process of fire-fighting has been intensified at the Chennai Silks Shop in T. Nagar. Meanwhile, the reason for the fire has been traced - it is due to the leakage of electricity from the generator.
It was a rather major fire accident today morning at 4.45 (Wednesday, 31st May) in the Chennai silks Shop located at Usman Road, T Nagar.
The news was immediately messaged to the fire fighting division. The squad arrived immediately and started quelling the fire. However, even after a few hours of firefighting, the fore could not be quelled even after 10 hours.
The firefighting squad safely rescued all the 14 persons who were trapped inside.
Meanwhile, the area where Chennai Silks Shop is located has been declared as a risk or danger zone.
The state minister R. P. Udhayakumar visited the site for an inspection. In an interview to the press, he informed that the incident involved no loss of lives. There are 50 water trucks ready to quell the fire. He informed that as the entire area was affected by smoke, there was a delay in quelling the fire.
It has been found that the leakage of electricity in the generator is the reason for the fire. Due to this leakage, the diesel can, kept nearby, exploded and led to fast catching and spreading of fire to other areas.
Meanwhile, the district collector, Mr. V. Anbuselvan, inspected the site and asked that all the nearby shops should remain closed and asked the public not to visit the area for watching the fire.
The Chennai Police Commissioner Viswanathan also made a visit to the sire for an inspection.
