Chennai MWSSB (Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board) has informed that the Porur Lake water will be purified and distributed for the city residents.
Due to the severe summer this year and extreme drought conditions prevailing all the 4 major water reservoirs for the Chennai Metro city have dried up. In this situation, MWSSB has been looking for other resources to meet the drinking water demands of the citizens, especially for the remaining part of the summer. Accordingly, Porur lake water has been located as one of the sources – this water will be purified and distributed for the city residents.
When enquiring about the present status of this plan, an official explained that experiments were conducted to establish whether Porur water is good for drinking – it has been confirmed. So, the Porur Lake water will be purified at the same place and 4 million litres of water from Porur lake will be distributed daily for a period of 3 months.
The equipment for this plan has been received from Gujarat. The activity of purification and distribution is set to start before this month end.
