Union Health Ministry has banned 5 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu claiming reasons of poor infrastructure facilities.
The ministry has been receiving a lot of complaints about such poor infrastructure in several private colleges. Based on this, the Indian Medical Council members visited these medical colleges and inspected the infrastructure in detail.
- Thandalam Madha Medical College
- Kanchipuram Annai Medical College
- Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research
- Ponnaiyah Ramajayam Institute of Medical Sciences
For all the above medical colleges, a 2-year ban is imposed.
There is a one year ban on Coimbatore Karpagam Medical College. With this, 750 medical seats in Tamil Nadu are cut. In Tamil Nadu 84,000 students have appeared for NEET entrance examination. Out of the total 6,850 seats, 750 are now reduced. Doctors claim that this loss in seats will have its consequence more than that of NEET exam and its effects.
