The state government secretary for higher education, Mr. Sunil Paliwal, informed that the fees for the engineering courses will be revised upwards this year.

In an interview session at the Anna University, he explained that the governments have not yet decided on the dates of NEET results and the subsequent counselling dates for admission to the medical courses. This has led to a delay in announcing the counselling dates for admission to engineering colleges.

It is expected that NEET results may be released by 26th June. Once this is released, the dates for counselling for admission to the engineering courses will be decided.

1.42 Lakhs candidates, including 52899 girls, have applied for counselling/admission to the engineering colleges this year. Out of this, 71275 candidates will be the 1st graduates in their generations.

Presently, it has been tentatively decided to commence counselling on 27th June.

This is only tentative and the date may changes depending on the counselling for medical courses.

The syllabus for the engineering courses in Anna University and affiliated colleges is set to be changed this year. The fees for the admission to engineering courses was last revised during July 2012.

Meanwhile, the engineering colleges have appealed to the Fees Fixing Committee headed by the retired judge Balasubramanian to approve an upward revision in the fees for engineering courses. This appeal is under scrutiny. So, there are possibilities for an upward revision in the engineering colleges.

However, Mr. Sunil Paliwal informed that it has been announced categorically that the engineering colleges must not demand more than the fees recommended by the committee.

The list of the percentage of success during the last 2 semesters conducted by the various engineering colleges (private colleges without autonomy, member colleges, etc., functioning under Anna University) was released by Anna University last week.
