For about 761 medicines, the Drug price regulator NPPA (National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority) has announced price ceiling today. This includes medicines for anti-cancer, HIV, antibiotic and diabetes while most of them have seen price cut ahead of GST.

Depending on the states, there will be 2-3 percent increase or decrease in price following the rollout of indirect tax regime.

Aiming at hassle-free and smooth GST implementation, about 761 medicines are imposed with price ceiling, says NPPA chairman, Bhupendra Singh. The change in price will be nominal of the range 2 to 3 percent.

All the pharmaceutical firms are requested to check the list of medicines and suggest for changes before 29th June. It is to be noted that the GST will be implemented on 1st July. The price ceiling will be notified as formal revised ceiling prices after GST notification.

It is observed from the provisional list that the price ceiling of medicines for cancer like Bortezomib, Docetaxel and Gemcitabine are reduced. Price of Bortezomib is reduced from Rs 11,636.60 to Rs 11,160.08 per pack. Likewise, price of Docetaxel is reduced from Rs 10,767.88 to Rs 10,326.94.
