Linking Aadhar with PAN becomes mandatory from 1st July

With effect from July, as per government orders, it is mandatory for taxpayers to link their Aadhar numbers with PAN cards.
 
The income tax rule is modified and notifications about the same are rolled out. Accordingly, the government mandates enrolling the 12-digit Aadhar number at the time of PAN card application.
 
Tax proposals in the Finance bill for 2017-18 is amended and Aadhar becomes compulsory for filing income tax returns.
 
Each and every individual who is assigned a PAN number, and those who must intimate their Aadhar details shall get it done with the principal director general of income tax or DGIT, reads a statement from the revenue department.
 
Further, the DGIT is entrusted for the same. And specific format and standards together with the procedures to verify documents that are filed along with PAN applications are intimated too.
 
This rule will come to existence from 1st July 2017, says the revenue department. The Rule 114 of the I-T Act is modified. This act deals with applications required for PAN card allotment.
 
Nearly 2.07 crore tax payers are already done with linking their Aadhar and PAN. Aadhar cards are totally issued to about 111 crore people of which 25 crore PAN card holders are present in the country.
