The construction activities of the metro railway stations in the section Nehru Park – Egmore- Chennai Central have been completed.
The Chennai Metro Rail officials informed that the test runs are scheduled to be conducted by end September.
The 1st Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail project covers a distance of 45 km in 2 corridors. Presently, Metro Rails are being operated in the sections Airport – Little Mount and Koyambedu – Nehru Park.
In the next phase, the final stages of work are in progress in the section Nehru Park – Central Station.

The task of construction of the Railway Stations has been completed. The task of laying the tracks and setting up the signals is also in the final stage. Test runs are planned during August-September. So, before the end of this year, the public service in the section Chennai Central to Meenambakkam will commence.Since the major activity centres Central, Egmore, and the Airport are linked, large crowds are expected to patronise this Metro Rail section.
