Soon, Tambaram to become the third railway terminal

Tambaram Railway station is gearing up to turn into the third terminal of the Chennai Railway Division following Chennai Central and Egmore. There are a number of modern amenities being created here. Tambaram is turning into one of the railway terminals belonging to Chennai Suburban Railway Network.
 
According to sources, the civil works at coach terminal have got over and all set for the launch. Coach allotments is important for augmenting train services starting from Tambaram. The Chennai Division Officials are in talks with the Railway Board and coach suppliers for the same.
 
A few years ago, it was decided that the Chennai Egmore be decongested and let Tambaram be the other terminal for operating a few trains. Following this, many express and super-fast trains were diverted from the Chennai Central station to Egmore station. For decongesting the Egmore station, from the Chengalpet junction two daily express trains Circar Express to Kakinada Port, and Kacheguda Express to Kacheguda are being operated. According to sources, they are eyeing on improving passenger amenities at different stations along Chennai Beach and Tambaram. If the Railway Ministry clears this, the functioning at these terminals shall begin.
