One of the dream projects of the present central government headed by Narendra Modi may shortly become a reality.
The Indian Railways have already announced the details of the bullet train to be operated between Mumbai and Ahmadabad and its latest modern facilities and features, raising a lot of excitement and expectation from the public.
Mumbai-Ahmadabad bullet train happens only to be a beginning. Further, plans are afoot to link all major cities through bullet trains.
HSRC (High-Speed Rail Corporation of India Ltd.) has been preparing the feasibility report has submitted its plans for the bullet train linking Delhi and Amritsar. Presently, it is preparing the feasibility report for the bullet train between Delhi and Kolkata.
Consultations have been held on this project with various other countries in the world. The feasibility report on linking all sections of the country through bullet trains is expected to be completed and submitted before the year end.
The central government has already constituted a National Superfast Railway Council to implement this project. This council has undertaken the responsibility for the Mumbai-Ahmadabad bullet train project.
The plan proposes to cover all the major cities in India:
Mumbai-Ahmadabad
A contract was signed with Japan to procure the Shinkansen superfast bullet trains at a cost of Rs. 5000 Crores.
The Mumbai-Ahmadabad bullet train will be the 1st of its kind in India. It will have 10 coaches and 732 seats. All modern facilities will be available. Separate toilets will be provided for men and women. A special, more spacious toilet will be provided for the differently-abled. The women will be provided with rest rooms and special rooms to breastfeed their infants.
The bullet train will cover the distance of 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmadabad will be covered in 2 hours and 7 minutes. 698 seats will be available in the ordinary class and 55 seats will be available in Business Class.
Delhi-Kolkata
The bullet train will cover the distance of 1474 km between Delhi and Kolkata in 5.54 hours. The 11 railway stations in between may include Greater NOIDA, Aligarh, Lucknow, Sultanpur, Jounpur, Varanasi, Patna. And Dhanbad.
The 1st stage feasibility report has been submitted to the central cabinet. The final report will be presented in October. Once approved, the project may commence in 2021.
Delhi-Mumbai
This project is deemed as an extension of the very first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmadabad. The Railway stations in Delhi-Mumbai bullet train route will be Gurgaon, Jaipur, Udaipur, Baroda, and Surat.
Mumbai-Chennai
There are prospects of many major cities in the country getting linked in this project. The railway stations in this route will be Goa, Pune, Bangalore, and Tirupathi.
Mumbai-Nagpur
The feasibility report for this is expected to be ready by October. The railway stations will be Nasik, Aurangabad, Akola, and Amaravati.
Delhi-Amritsar
The bullet train route will have 3 raililway stations – Chandigarh, Panipat. And Ambala. The bullet train will cover the distance of 458 km in 2.30 hours. It may be noted that as compared to the present travel time, this will be lesser by 4 hours.
It will be a great boon to think that we may travel by bullet train in fast time to Tirupathi and Goa.
