The attendance record through the fingerprint system is already in practice for all the central government employees.
However, in the state of Tamil Nadu, this fingerprint attendance record system has not been implemented so far in all the state government establishments including the Chief Secretariat.
The state government employees should be in their respective offices every working day between 9.45 AM to 10.00 AM. They have to work until 5.45 PM. They have a concession of 10 minutes so that they enter the office before 10.10 AM. Further, a permission to come late by 1 hour is available twice a month. So, in case they are late, they can utilise this permission for up to 2 times in a month.Otherwise, it will be taken as half-a-day casual leave.
As for the government school teachers, their working hours are from 9.20 AM to 4.10 PM. However, complaints have been received that some of them do not maintain punctuation.
The Department of School Education has been taking stringent action on the erring employees. However, the system of signing in the attendance register ledger is still in practice in all the places.
Now, the state government has taken a decision to convert the attendance recording system for all employees including state government employees, teachers, etc. Into the digital mode along with the details of their salary, service file, and retirement details.
In the 1st Phase, a special software is being created to be set up in all types of state government establishments.
The well-known IT company, WIPRO, has undertaken the responsibility to implement this digital conversion.
An official explained that the state government has been initiating action to develop an integrated finance and human welfare development plan to enable immediate access to the details of the government revenue and expenditure, etc.
Safety features such as digital signature, attendance record through fingerprint system, etc., are being made compulsory.
The fingerprint attendance system will be implemented in all the Tamil Nadu state government establishments from December.
Though it might be a challenging task to implement the system throughout the state at the same time, the state government has decided to take this up in a gradual mode but ensuring that it is set up in all state government establishments.
