It is likely that the Directorate of Medical Examination will prepare 2 separate merit lists. One will be based on National Eligibility cum Entrance Test and the other is with the regular procedure based on aggregate marks scored in class 12.
Following the prolonged litigation about the admission process and the efforts taken by the state government for getting presidential assent for bills to remove the state out of NEET, this proposal is taken.
Based on NEET, the medical education department is in the process of drafting the merit list as per the orders from court. As the government believed that it will be exempted from NEET, officials started drafting the list depending on class 12 marks. The time available is very short and parents and students are left very anxious. If the court wants us to release the list, we should be equipped accordingly. So, we do not want to leave out anything, says an official.
A lot of students from the other states have also applied. Applicants with nativity certificate are also there from the other states, but they have studied elsewhere. They mainly hail from CBSE syllabus or other boards. More than 4,000 applications from various other boards are also received, says G. Selvarajan, secretary of the selection committee.
