On Wednesday, the opposition has asked the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley whether the government will launch Rs 2000 notes and replace them with Rs 1000 coins.

There was however no response from the end of Finance Minister in spite of the opposition members insisting the clarification about the same. During the Zero hour, a point of order is raised and the SP Naresh Agrawal said the Rs 2000 notes are to be scrapped. No more Rs 2000 notes will be printed. When any decision is taken in the parliament session, it will be announced in the House as in tradition.

About 3.2 lakh crore numbers of Rs 2000 notes are so far printed by the RBI. Now the printing of these notes is stopped. One ban on notes is done and the second is planned. The finance minister has to clarify the same.

This is an RBI’s action, clarifies deputy chairman PJ Kurien. The government had earlier taken decision about the note ban earlier and it was not the call taken by the RBI. The RBI has however opposed it, but the government has taken this decision. The government has also made the decision, he affirmed.
