Gone are the days when weddings were hunting for exotic foreign locations. You may soon find weddings taking place in Indian railway stations, yes, that’s true. Here is a new policy from the Indian railways that allows possible proposals to make money through non-conventional resources. One such non-conventional method is to rent out the railway station buildings for special events like wedding. Responding to this unstarred query, the Lok Sabha has stated that the least busy areas of railway stations can be rented to conduct marriages or other ceremonies.

The Zonal railways and divisions is free to take a call and work out the possibilities to rent out stations and select the part of station that can probably be rented out. The primary focus of this move is to increase revenue generation.

As there are a lot of passengers shifting from railways to different other modes of transport, the railways is planning to trigger ways that can increase revenue. One such non-fare revenue model is renting out the station for ceremonies. There is a separate directorate for the same. At present, only 5 percent of total transporter’s earnings is contributed by the non-conventional sources. Officials stress on the fact that nations like Japan make over 30 percent revenue out of such non-traditional sources.
