As a move to improve the standards of Anna University and safeguard the students from outsmarting the grading system, the university’s academic council has fixed a minimum pass mark for students in these university departments.
According to the decision taken, the students ought to score 50 percent marks for clearing the subject. Together with the Choice Based Credit System, there is also a relative grading system introduced for the students at all the 4 university departments. This includes the College of Engineering in Guindy, and Madras Institute of Technology, Chrompet.
As per the relative grading, this pass mark is not fixed. Based on the collective performance of class, the students will get awarded with the grades.
There is substantial improvement in the pass percentage of students in the new system in the past 2 years. The professors have however complained that the overall standard has got a lot more down.
With the relative grading system, with the internal exam, students can clear with one or two marks. The state toppers study mostly in these 4 colleges. It is important to ensure minimum standard by fixing the pass mark, said a professor.
