Central Govt: LPG cooking gas subsidy will not be cancelled

The Central Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has informed that the present system of subsidy for LPG cooking gas will not be cancelled.

Meanwhile, the central government has ordered the Oil Corporations to increase the price of the domestic LPG cooking gas cylinder by Rs. 4 every month – this is seen as a step towards stopping the subsidy offered for this 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder.

The central government has planned to reduce this subsidy gradually and to stop it by March 2018.

The opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha today (Tuesday, 1st August) took this issue and protested strongly and almost took to rioting.

On this issue, the central petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan explained categorically that the subsidy for the cooking gas cylinder will not be stopped. It will be regulated and regularized. The charges made by the opposition on this issue is baseless. There is no point in indulging in a riot for this.

An early decision will be taken on who should be eligible for the subsidy and who will not be.
