This month may end with a wet note, as weather experts expect thunderstorms in a few parts of the state today. In the past 5 years, this year is said to be the wettest southwest monsoon season.
In August, the thunderstorms that brought rainfall for several days has accounted to 244 mm rainfall in this season. This is 21 percent higher than the average rain showers since the beginning of June this year.

The director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre, S. Balachandran says the volume of rain showers this year is the highest in the past 5 years. It however does not mean to state that all the districts have grabbed good rain showers.
There are districts like Kanniyakumari and Nilgiris that saw poor downpour this season. Starting from Saturday, increased rainfall is likely. A number of regions in the state may see moderate rain showers. A few places – may be one or two in the south of Tamil Nadu will see heavy showers, he added.
