Starting from 24th August, within just 3 days of opening of pre-booking, over 6 million units of JioPhones were booked, according to Reliance Retail channel partner. It is likely that the ‘free’ JioPhone shall begin getting delivered during Navarathri that starts on 21st September.
After receiving bookings for more than 6 million units in just 3 days of opening, the pre-booking for JioPhone is halted. The channel partner further stated that they have received information from Reliance that deliveries will begin from Navarathri.
There was however no response given to the mails sent to Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail. Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industry had said during the previous Annual General Meetings that about 5 million JioPhones will be sold per week.
The customers had to pay a refundable deposit of Rs 500 at the time of pre-booking that got opened on 24th August. The balance of Rs 1000 need to be paid to customers when they get the phone delivered to them in September (this month).
After 36 months of delivering the phone, the complete refundable deposit amount shall be repaid. Industry sources say that about 10 million people have expressed interest towards buying JioPhone.
