The Chennai High Court has ordered that the local elections in Tamil Nadu must be conducted before 17th November.
The local elections were to have been conducted in October last year. However, they were postponed due to the petition put up by R. S. Bharathi and Padam Narayanan of DMK. The petition cited the discrepancies in the allotment of the reserved quota for ancient tribes, etc.
This has been on enquiry and the verdict given by the bench of judges headed by the Chennai High Court Chief Justice Indira Bannerji.
The announcement regarding conducting the local elections must be made before 18th September. The local elections must be conducted before 17th November. The criminal background, if any, of the contestants, must be released on the internet.
