The Police officials have informed that if the vehicle driver keeps the original driving licence in the shirt pocket just as they keep their ATM card, it is possible to escape an imprisonment for 3 months.
Earlier, the state government of Tamil Nadu had imposed an order that keeping original driving license while driving as mandatory from 1st September. Social activists like Traffic Ramasamy and a few others filed a petition against this order in the Chennai High Court.
After the enquiry, the panel of judges headed by the Chief Justice of the Chennai High Court, Indira Bannerji, the verdict raised questions like what are the difficulties in keeping the original driving licence while driving none as such hence, it is mandatory to keep the same. It adjourned the enquiry to 8th September.
As the time limit given by the Chennai High court expired, it has become mandatory for all the vehicle drivers to keep their original driving licences while driving.
Thus, conditions have arisen where the vehicle drivers, driving without their original driving licences, will have to face the punishment of 3 months imprisonment or a fine of Rs. 500 or both.
On this issue, the police officials informed that if the drivers keep their original driving licences in their shirt pockets like ATM cards, they can avoid 3 months imprisonment.
