The deadline to file Goods and Service Tax (GST) return for July and August is now extended. This deadline will be for 3 different categories. September 10 is the last date for sales return or GSTR-1 for the month of July, whereas the same was September 5 earlier. Purchase return or GSTR-2 was initially set for September 10 deadline which is now extended to September 25. And GSTR-3 had September 15 as the deadline, whereas it is now extended to September 30.
This extension of deadline for GSTR-1, GSTR-2 and GSTR-3 are set by GIC which stands for GST Implementation Committee, reads a government tweet.
For August month, the deadline for GSTR-1, GSTR-2 and GSTR-3 are extended to 5th October, 10th October and 15th October respectively. Earlier, the deadline dates were 20th, 25th and 30th September. In addition to the relief imposed on tax filing, businesses are also allowed for tax payment relaxation for July and August.
Reports state that the government has taken this initiative after the crash on GST portal because of heavy traffic on the site. And to note, this is not for the first time that the GST portal has seen such glitches. There will be more time for the businesses to comprehend with the nuances caused by GST returns that people are filing for the very first time.
