The correction activities of the voters list will be taken up in October in Tamil Nadu. The Election Commission is releasing the draft voters list for this purpose.
The Indian Election Commission has been making corrections in the voters’ list every year. The short-term correction activity is taken up in October every year. Prior to this, the Election Commission releases the draft voters’ list.
In this routine, the Election Commission is set to release the draft voters’ list on 3rd October. All the district collectors (except Chennai district) will release this. Subsequently, the correction activity of the list will be taken up.
An official from the Election Commission explained that there are 4.93 Crores voters in Tamil Nadu as per the latest statistics. Once the draft voters’ list is released, each voter should check and confirm whether his/her name is included.
Addition or removal of names, change of residence, and corrections in the voter details will be carried out. Special camps will be conducted in the respective polling booths.
In the short-term correction activities, the focus will be on registration of new voters. In a special operation conducted some months ago, young voters were added to the list. The new voters’ list is set to be released on the 1st week of January.
