The price of the bunch of plantains used for festive occasions, especially, Ayudha Pooja, has gone up as per the latest daily auction conducted in Paramathivelur.
Poovan type plantain bunches were sold at a maximum of Rs. 250. The Pachainadan branch of plantain bunches was sold at the maximum of Rs. 300. The karpooravalli brand of plantain bunches was sold at the maximum of Rs. 300. The Pondhan type plantains were sold at Rs. 7 each.
For the auction conducted on Wednesday, the farmers had brought about 3000 plantain trees bunches. Poovan was sold at the maximum of Rs. 700. Rasthali was sold at the maximum of Rs. 400. Pachainadan was sold at the maximum price of Rs. 450. Karpooravalli was sold at the maximum of Rs. 500.
Mondha raw plantain was sold at Rs. 9 per piece. The farmers growing plantains informed that the prices had gone up mainly due to the Ayudha Pooja festival.
