The Entertainment Tax in Tamil Nadu has been reduced from 30% to 10%. Now, the Entertainment Tax for the films produced and released in Tamil will be 10%. For the movies of other languages released, this will be 20%.
The Entertainment Tax for old movies exhibited in theaters will be 7% and other language movies it will be 14%. This newly revised tax system will be effective from 27th September. GST was being collected with the film tickets over the last 3 months.
The Theatre Ownes’ Association will meet on Wednesday (4th October) to decide the next immediate action – to revise the cinema ticket prices after the recent announcement on reduced Entertainment Tax.
The news about this was conveyed by the President of the Tamil Film Trading council, Abirami Ramanathan.
As the new entertainment tax is to be added to GST, there are prospects of the film ticket fares going up.
