Chennai, the Gateway to South India had been observing light to moderate showers since the past few days.
In fact, these rains have picked up pace during the last 24 hours, resulting in moderate to heavy rains over the region.
As per Skymet Weather, the reason behind these good showers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is seen over North Tamil Nadu and adjoining South Karnataka. In addition to this, another cyclonic circulation is lying over west-central Bay of Bengal off South Odisha Coast. From this system extends an upper air trough up to north of Tamil Nadu.
Hence, under the influence of these weather systems, moderate to heavy spells of rain are expected to continue over the city for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, these rains will witness a decreasing trend.
In spite of rains, the day will be little warm and humid with persistence of cloud cover. On the other hand, morning and nights will remain comfortable with minimum temperatures settling around 24-25 degrees.
