After witnessing good rains almost throughout the Southwest Monsoon, dry days are once again back in Tamil Nadu and the capital city Chennai. In general, the state does not record good rains during Southwest Monsoon season as it lies in the rain-shadow area but this year, Tamil Nadu recorded some miraculous showers.

Though it was mainly the northern districts of the state that recorded some rains while districts of South Tamil Nadu mainly remained dry. However, the last 24 hours were a little sad for the state and the state capital as the weather over most parts of the state became dry.

Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Monday, both the observatories in Chennai failed to record any rains. Though Vellore managed to record 39.5 mm of rains and Cuddalore witnessed light spells of 3 mm during the same time frame.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains were due to the persistence of a trough from the eastern parts of the country up to North Kerala across Rayalaseema. As North Tamil Nadu lies in the vicinity of this trough, thus the northern districts of Tamil Nadu as compared with the southern regions of the state.

As of now also, rains are likely to continue in Chennai. These rains will be of scattered intensity and are expected to continue until October 6 or 7. However, Skymet Weather further anticipates that these rains will be mainly due to the development of convective clouds. Which is why it will be of a short duration and will cover a few localities.

The maximum temperatures are also likely to scale up due to which warm weather along with a humid day is likely to prevail. The rain intensity is expected to reduce by October 9 and 10 over most parts of the state.
