The temple corridor of Sri Sabarimala temple will be opened this evening (Monday, 16th October) for the Pooja to be performed during the Tamil/Malayalam calendar month of Ippasi. The selection of the appointment of new ‘Melsanthi’ is scheduled tomorrow (Tuesday, 17th October).
The present Melsanthi, Unnikrishnan, will open the temple corridors and light the Deepam. The ‘holy ash’ (Vibhoothi) will be given to the devotees as a ‘prasadam’ (offering). The corridors will be closed by 11.00 PM.
The temple corridors will be opened again by tomorrow (Tuesday, 17th October). At 5.00 AM. Tantri Kandararu Mahesh Mohanaru will inaugurate the special ghee abhishekham and pooja.
During the afternoon, Usha Pooja, Ucha Pooja, and Pushpabhishekham will be performed along with Kalababishekham and Sahasrakalasam. ‘Padi Pooja’ will be performed at 7.00 PM every day.
Selection of the new Melasanthi will be carried out tomorrow at 8.00 AM through a lucky-dip. A person will be selected from the special list of names prepared after conducting interviews on behalf of Thiruvithankur Devamsam Board.
The selected person will assume responsibility for the 1st of the Tamil calendar month ‘Karthigai’ and function as Melsanthi for a 1-year period.
The Kerala state Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, will be visiting Santhanam. He will conduct a review meeting with the officers.
The temple corridors will be closed at 10.00 PM on 21st October.
