Though the market environment in India in the last quarter was rather dull, there was still substantial growth in the smartphone sales in the country – India has now gone to the 2nd place in the international market for smartphones.
Thus, India has pushed the USA back and assumed the 2nd place in the international market.
While the sales of smartphones were somewhat slack in the 2nd quarter of 2017, there was a phenomenal increase in sales in the 3rd quarter in India. The Indian smartphone sales market has recorded that the sales in the 3rd quarter were up by 23% as compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
In the 2nd quarter alone, 4 crore smartphones have been sold in India. While this is a record in India, this sale has also enabled India to push the USA down to the 3rd place and occupy the 2nd place in the international smartphone sales market.
The report from the company Canalys mentions that presently, China is in the No. # 1 position in the international smartphone sales market.
As regards the smartphone manufacturing companies, Samsung has so far sold 94 Lakh smartphones in the 3rd quarter. This is 30% up as compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.

Out of the total smartphones sold during the 3rd quarter of this year, 50% of the sales is from Samsung and Xiaome.
In the Indian Market, the brands Samsung, Xiaome, Vivo, Oppo, and Lenovo together have 75% shares of the sales of smartphones.
Though Xiaome is the 1st on this list, it has to pay extra attention in the sales of smartphones in the price range Rs. 15000 to Rs. 20000. In this price bracket, the brands such as Samsung, Oppo, and Vivo continue to dominate.
Canalys, in its analysis, has estimated that after a few more quarter periods, Xiaome will push Samsung back and will occupy the premier sales position.
