The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing on and off rainfall activity for the last few days. In fact, since the arrival of Northeast Monsoon, some rainfall activity has been witnessed throughout the state. Dry days have completed taken a backseat over entire Tamil Nadu.
The last 24 hours were even better as rain intensity witnessed an increase over the state. In fact, many parts of Tamil Nadu recorded moderate to heavy rains during the same time frame.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Nagapattinam received heavy rains of 48 mm, Karaikal 46 mm, Cuddalore 26 mm, Chennai 20 mm and Vellore 4 mm.
The reason for these rains over the entire state of Tamil Nadu can be attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast. Northeast Monsoon has also activated over the state. Thus, moisture incursion has been taking place from the Bay of Bengal which will enhance rains over the region.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, many districts of Tamil Nadu will receive moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 to 48 hours. Intensity will be higher over coastal areas of the state as compared to interior parts. The city of Chennai will also witness moderate to heavy showers during the aforementioned time period.
