Chennai rains have been good news for the residents of the capital city of Tamil Nadu. The city had been witnessing light rains for the past many days. However, the last 24 hours saw moderate to heavy rains lashing Chennai.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Nungambakkam observatory recorded a good 20 mm of rain. While Minambakkam observatory did not observe any significant rainfall, adjoining areas of Chennai did see some good showers.
Not only this, thundershowers have been occurring over Chennai since morning hours. Some parts of the city including Anna Nagar have been receiving very heavy rains. So much so that as per reports, waterlogging has been seen in the region as well.
These rainfall activities can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is currently persisting over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast. Along with this, Northeast Monsoon is also currently active over the region.
Good rains are expected to continue over the city of Chennai throughout the day with few breaks in between. Not only this, Chennai rains are expected to continue for another two to three days from now. So much so that these rains will be moderate to heavy in terms of intensity.
Weather conditions will become even more pleasant as the temperatures will witness a significant drop over Chennai and adjoining areas.
