One week has passed and it is still raining heavily. Though the clouds look cleared, the state health department remains on toes, as their works have just begun.

On Sunday, medical camps in Chennai and suburbs were initiated by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. In spite of not any major outbreak of water-borne infection, teams are sent out to perform inspection, chlorinate water and get rid of all major mosquito breeding grounds.

In Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram, over 512 medical camps were held in the past 1 week. This has on the whole benefited over 33,000 people, reads a government statement. In addition to the existing 400, there are 200 more mobile medical teams appointed for conducting camps.

K. Kolandhaisamy, the Director of Public Health said in spite of dip in incidence of dengue, due to incessant rain showers, there is increased possibility of dengue incidence. We have requested for disease profile in all areas. Cases of diarrhea and fever are also being mapped. This will show a clear indication of typhoid, dengue, leptospirosis, etc.

The public water supply are also being inspected. Furthermore, in addition to the 3,000 medical teams, 25 Siddha practitioners teams are also deployed to extend medical relief.
