Only 2500 devotees will be allowed atop Annamalai hill: HC

The Chennai High Court has ordered that only 2500 devotees can go to the mountain to attend and have the Darshan of the grand Karthigai Deepam festival.

The famous annual Karthigai Deepam festival at Thiruvannamalai is scheduled to be celebrated on 2nd December this year.

In this situation, the district administration ordered that the devotees should not go to the mountain to have the Darshan of the Deepam. Sakthivel and Srinivasan filed a petition to the Chennai High Court to cancel this order.

Judge K. Ravichandra babu conducted the enquiry of this case. He had ordered that the district administration must immediately respond to this issue.

The case came up again for the enquiry yesterday (Wednesday, 29th November). It was ordered that only 2500 devotees may be permitted to go to the mountaintop, The judge ordered that on the day of the Grand Deepam Festival (2nd December), 2500 devotees may be permitted to go the mountaintop from 6.00 AM. A proper token system must be implemented to monitor this. Water-bottles and ghee may be allowed to be carried. However, match-boxes and camphor will not be allowed to be carried.

With this, the judge adjourned the case by another 4 weeks.
