3rd November 2017 – Heavy rains flushed Chennai city
Due to severe downpour across Chennai city, there were power cuts in several areas and colleges and schools had declared holidays. Anna University and Madras University examinations were also postponed due to rain.
 
3rd November 2017 – Changes in VAO and Group-4 selection procedures
TNPSC had announced that about 60 percent of VAO exam applicants also apply for Group-4 examination. The vacancies are filled based on the 10th score of applicants. Hence, both these exams will henceforth be combined and conducted together, reads a TNPSC announcement. This exam will be conducted in the name CCSE-IV.
 
6th November – GSTN relaxes refund claiming
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has introduced Table 6A to Form GSTR-1 which is used for refund claiming. According to GSTN statement released, the GST portal has got the new addition of Table 6A of Form GSTR-1.
 
With this Table 6A, tax payers can file details pertaining to export made during the stipulated time period that allows tax refund processing as per declaration given under Form GSTR 3B and Table 6A of GSTR-1.
 
It will be possible for the exporter to claim Integrated GST refund during export by filling up details such as shipping bill, GST, etc.
 
This shipping bill will act as the refund application of integrated tax paid towards exporting goods out of the country. There is a returns section on the GST portal where the table can be filed. This refund shall be made either via credit directly on the bank account of exporter through ECS or cheque.
 
10th November 2017 – slash down of GST rate on mass consumption
Today, the GST Council came up with slashing down of tax rate of mass use items from the earlier 28 percent to 18 percent. There are 5 different tax slabs implemented by the Goods and Services Tax on 1st July. They are 0 percent, 5 percent, 12 percent, 18 percent and 28 percent. During the full GST council meeting held under the lead of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, announcement about the slash down was made. With this, price of over 177 goods shall get reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent.
 
13th November – launch of phase-2 of BharatNet
As a move to provide high-speed broadband services to all the Gram Panchayats by March 2019, the government has come up with the launch of BharatNet Phase-2. This will be done at an estimated cost of Rs 34 thousand crore.
 
For this, the Department of Telecommunications has signed a MoU where it is mentioned that it is for the second phase of BharatNet. With this phase of the project, about 1.5 lakh Gram Panchayats in India shall get broadband connectivity. In over a lakh Gram Panchayat, the Optical Fiber network is introduced in the phase-1 of BharatNet. By December 2017, all of the Panchayats will get operational on the BharatNet infrastructure. So far, about 90,000 installations are done and it is likely that the broadband services would begin in 80,000 Gram Panchayats.
 
18th November – H1B visa issue
A new regulation was imposed according to which only postgraduates are allowed to submit their H1B visa application. This had put the entire Indian Comommunity awestruck. There are a number of aggressive initiatives taken by the US administration under President Trump all of which have the approach of giving priority only to the Americans when it comes to job offerings. This has largely hit the foreigners in the U.S., particularly Indians.
 
29th November 2017 – official launch of Paytm Payments Bank
On this day, the Paytm Payments Bank was officially launched. CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma made the official launch. Along with this, the offline Paytm Payments Bank services have also begun.
 
On this occasion, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was present too. During the event, details of the progress by the bank so far was shared. There were talks on how Paytm Payments Bank would function.
 
30th November – Ockhi Cyclone
The Cyclone Ockhi gather pace and developed into a cyclonic storm. This has moved along Lakshadweep following sever downpour for which 9 in Tamil Nadu and Kerala lost lives! To save the stranded fishermen, the navy is called for help. It is likely that the cyclone will furthermore strengthen. Weather forecasters alert of heavy downpour in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. All schools lying along the coast of these two states are closed.
