If you want to avoid a few kinds of hassles in the coming year, you got to meet some deadlines pertaining to Aadhar. The government has placed a request to the Supreme Court for postponing hearing on Aadhar legality to next year, and has recommended extension of deadline to link different kinds of services by 3 months and make it 31st March 2018.
The apex court has not made any final decision in this regard though.
Below is the list of the deadlines the government has fixed towards the 12-digit unique identity number.
31st December 2017 - deadline to link Aadhar with PAN
Earlier, the government had intimated the income tax returns filed after 1st July 2017 shall only be accepted when the tax assesse has got their PAN linked with Aadhar card. However, a lot of people find it tough in making this link in spite of extending the deadline for filing returns.
Among the reasons for difficulties faced in linking is the mismatch of PAN and Aadhar details due to spelling errors or of other types. Hence, the individuals who have made the filing of ITR before 5th August 2017, but still await to link their PAN with Aadhar are given a relaxation. According to the government announcement, the new deadline for linking is 31st December 2017. By this date, individuals need to get their Aadhar linked so as to process the returns.
For each and every PAN holder, it is mandatory to link Aadhar and PAN card abiding by the income tax law mentioned in the last Union budget.
This deadline is however applicable only for those who file income tax return in the present year. When you need not file the ITR according to tax laws which means your total annual income is less than the taxable limit of Rs 2.5 lakh for the financial year 2017-18, the deadline shall be intimated soon.
Deadline to submit Aadhar details to financial institutions – 31st December 2017
It is important to link your Aadhar details with bank account, credit card, insurance policies, mutual fund investments, equity, savings schemes such as Kisan Vikas Patra, Public Provident Fund, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, National Savings Certificate, etc.
If you have availed home loan from any bank or housing finance company or non-banking finance company, you will have to submit Aadhar details.
All the banks, financial institutions and intermediaries need to make sure that their customers compliant with the Know Your Customer, according to new rules that mandates Aadhar verification. The Prevention of Money Laundering Rules (Maintenance and Records), 2005 is amended for the same.
According to the new rules, it is mandatory to provide Aadhar or PAN details and they need to be compliant with KYC. When it is not done before 31st December, the account would turn inoperable until the time the details are provided.
When submitting them, you will have to get the authentication done for verifying that the Aadhar details provided is yours, according to the notified rules.
e-KYC verification based on Aadhar before 6th February 2018
After the Supreme Court judgement madade on 6th February 2017, the department of Telecommunication has instructed all the telecom operators to get the reverification done for all existing mobile subscribers through Aadhar based e-KYC. Further, at the time of purchase of new mobile SIM connection, the Aadhar details need to be compulsorily shared.
According to Supreme Court order, the deadline to finish reverification of all existing mobile subscribers is 6th February 2018.
As per the circular rolled out by the DoT dated 23rd March 2017, there is no clear intimation about what would happen in case if the Aadhar details are not linked with the mobile numbers of customers. On the other hand, the telecom companies have notified on their sites that there may be restrictions on the mobile connection services, or that the number may turn inactive when the Aadhar compliance is left undone. Reports state that the numbers that are not linked with Aadhar shall get deactivated after the given deadline.
Deadline to link Aadhar with Social security schemes is 31st December 2017
The deadline to mandatorily provide Aadhar details for availing benefits of social schemes has got extended. As per the extended deadline, it is now 31st December, whereas the previous deadline was 30th September 2017.
Aadhar details have turned mandatory for a number of services such as LPG cylinders, Human Resource Development ministry’s scholarship schemes, subsidized ration as per Public Distribution System scheme, and pension.
