By Monday, CMRL is all set to make a new milestone, as it is set to wrap up constructing the very last tunnel for its phase-1 project. This tunnel is set to link AG-DMS and May Day Park. Once it is completed, the entire tunneling work required for the phase-1 project of 45 km shall come to an end. So, with that, it will be 6 complete years since beginning of the works! By end of 2018, the 4 km stretch between May Day Park and AG-DMS will get opened for the public usage.

Excavation works to get over on Monday

In a hint about this, the metro rail officials say there is just one tunnel boring machine at work and it shall finish excavation and the construction of very last tunnel will end on Monday. By this weekend, the works are likely to get over, but at the maximum, the works shall get wrapped up on Monday.

Operational by end of 2018

On October 18, the first two tunnels connecting May Day Park and AG-DMS got over. Before this, the CMRL engineers struggled in breaking concrete walls of the station because the cutters on the cutter head were blunt. Upon completing the second tunnel, it shall connect metro station in Central until Airport through Anna Salai. This line will however turn operational only by the end of next year, because all the works along the 5 metro underground stations along the stretch between AG-DMS and May Day Park needs to be finished.

One part of 3.6 km stretch to get opened

By March 2018, one part of the underground station connecting 3.6 km stretch between AG-DMS and Saidapet is aimed to get opened. Tracks needed for trial runs shall be laid and the necessary works shall begin by end of this month. This line aims at connecting 4 stations – AG-DMS, Nandanam, Saidapet and Teynampet.
