In the 2nd Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, 3 corridors are planned - Madhavaram-Siruseri, Koyambedu Bus Terminus-Light House, and Madhavaram-Sholinganallur, covering a total distance of 107 km.

A Metro Rail official explained in this regard that during the 2nd Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project (Madhavaram-Siruseri section), 104 Railway stations are to be set up.

The 2nd Phase plans have been devised to link the various IT (Information Technology) Organisations located in OMR (Old Mahabalipuram Road).

As thousands of cars, buses, vans, and motorbikes pass through the roads in this segment, there is a very heavy traffic congestion on a regular basis.

The Metro Rail Phase-2 intends to address this problem to reduce the traffic congestion and also to attract the sizeable section of the IT employees to commute by Metro.

22 Elevated Railway Stations and 82 underground Railway Stations are being constructed. The project activities are set to commence in March 2018. The project will take 10 years for completion.
