It is mandatory under the Food Safety Act that traders must possess a licence or registration certificate.
All categories of retail food sellers - including the push-cart shops, hotels, restaurants, and pavement shops – must obtain the licence and the registration certificate before 31st December.
The food traders who do annual business under Rs. 12 Lakhs can pay Rs. 100 at the respective offices of the Food Safety Officers and get the registration certificates from the concerned officers.
The food traders who so an annual business of Rs. 12 Lakhs need to pay Rs. 2000 in the office of the respective District Appointment Officer and obtain the licence.
The payments must be made as a challan under the account DPC 0210-04-800-AM-0008 in the State Bank of India Treasury Office located opposite to the Chennai Electric Train Beach Railway Station.
Apart from the above procedure, arrangements have been made to obtain the licence from the e-service centres as well. This service centre can be located by browsing on the internet website -
