The Ministry of Railways has been initiating several measures to increase the revenue earned. Last year, Suvidha express trains were introduced to meet the demand of the passengers.

During that time, the system of fixing the ticket fares based on the excess demand was taken up. The system of increased fare during the travel rush, vacation periods depending the demand was also put in vogue.

As per this, the 1st 30% tickets are charged the normal fare. After this, for each 10% seats booked based on the demand (after the 1st 30%) is charged 10% extra.

There have been complaints that the fares for the Suvidha Express trains are excessively high. Especially, the passengers have complained that the 1st class fare is even higher than the flight fare. Still, the central government has not taken any initiatives to regulate the fares for Suvidha Express trains.

In the above situation, the department of railways is exploring the possibility of increasing the fares. It is well known that there is a preference for window-side seats and lower berths.

Taking this preference into consideration, it is planned to increase the fare for the lower berths and window-seats. It is understood that the fare for the window seats may be up by Rs. 50. It is expected that this may be announced in the budget.
