Posted on: 30/Dec/2017 7:04:50 PM
The wait for Chennai rains seems to get over for some parts of the city as the capital of Tamil Nadu is expected to witness some light rains. Chennai has been waiting for some rains for 3-4 days now.

Though city’s Nungambakkam Observatory has recorded some traces on December 25, the last rainy spells recorded by the Meenambakkam Observatory was on December 23.

The last 24 hours brought some light traces of rains for parts of the city wherein, the Meenambakkam Observatory witnessed some traces, but Nungambakkam Observatory still failed to witness any showers.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast. From this system, an upper air trough is also extending up to West Central Bay of Bengal off South Odisha coast.

Due to this system, clouding is expected to increase along the eastern coast of the country. Hence, light rains are expected at a few places along the eastern coast of the country that includes the states such as Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The capital of Tamil Nadu, Chennai may also witness some light rains during the next 48 hours. Thus, Chennai may welcome the first day of the New Year with some light rains.

Though, these rains are expected to be very light and highly localized and patchy in nature. The night temperatures are also expected to increase marginally while no significant changes are expected in the day temperatures.
