Work on the toll plazas to be constructed on 60-km-long Chennai Outer Ring Road (ORR) will commence soon. The work is likely to be completed in six months since apart from the booths, rest rooms and other facilities too have be created at these points.

According to sources in the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC), The State government had already issued the necessary G.O. declaring the road as a toll facility. The rates will be based on the whole price index like that fixed by the National Highways Authority of India. However, the rates have not been fixed. As of now, there is no decision as to when the tolling will commence.

Toll plazas are to come up on the six-lane road at Varadarajapuram (6 km), Kolappancheri (21.8 km), Palavedu (30.85 km) and Padiyanallur (47.90 km).

Only about 500 m of road remains to be laid in phase II. An existing road inside the SIDCO Women’s Industrial Estate at Thirumullavoyal will be strengthened and traffic will be diverted through it at that point. Similarly at Padianallur, traffic will be allowed to take a 2- km diversion on the NH5 through Redhills.

A Pattabiram resident said, The work must be completed before tolling commences. Facilities, including rest rooms and parking facilities, must be constructed.
