In the ceremonial parade that was held at the Tambaram Air Force Station Air Commodore MS. Awana took charge of the Tambaram Air Force station from the previous Air Commodore S. Shrinivas.

This new chief MS. Awana is a highly experienced professional and it was in the year 1987 he was commissioned into the fighter stream of Indian Air Force. As a qualified flying instructor he has done superbly. It is amazing to mention here that he has recorded 3600 hours of flight on different aircrafts.

It must be noted that Mr. MS. Awana as a Command for fighter squadron and fighter base did great job previously. National Defence College located in Delhi is highly famous and this Awana is an alumni from this prestigious college. It is sensational to note that he was awarded Vishisht Seva medal and Ati Vishisht Seva medal for his tremendous contributions.

It must not be forgotten that Air force base was constructed at Tambaram in Chennai in the year 1942 and British played great role in constructing this base in 1400 acres of land. As Royal Naval Air Station this air force station played its part during the World War 2. In those days this Air force base helped Allied Forces to rest- in- transit. Later Flying Instructor’s School or FIS began functioning here and this led to many activities. It must be noted that this school was previously present in Ambala in Haryana state and later shifted to Chennai. In this air Force station at Tambaram many pilots are being trained now. It is superb to mention that helicopters belonging to Indian Navy are also operated in this popular Chennai based Air Force.

It is worthy to note that Indian Air Force in the year 2017 proposed to lengthen the runway as this would help in the landing of bigger air crafts.
