Even after the Chennai High Court ordered that state government transport employees to join duty, the strike by them has continued for another 5 days.
However, the strike is being withdrawn tonight (Thursday, 11th January).
Demanding the wage revision and the pending pension payments, the state government transport employees went on strike since the last 8 days. Hence, the full strength of buses could not be operated. With the ensuing Pongal festive holidays, there is a situation where the public could not undertake visits to their native places, during this occasion and put to great hardship. So, a case was filed in the court against the strike.
The Chennai High Court has appointed the retired Judge E. Padmanabhan to find a solution to this issue of the strike. Subsequently, the High Court ordered that the employees should report for duty and must withdraw the strike.
