The city of Chennai, after a long gap has been witnessing on and off light rain. These rains can be attributed to a trough of low which is seen over Comorin region and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean. Besides this, moderate winds from Bay of Bengal are reaching the Tamil Nadu Coast.

So in consequence to this, many parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai have been recording scattered light to moderate showers.

Now, weathermen anticipate on and off showers to continue over the state of Tamil Nadu for another 48 hours, after that, the weather will again go dry.

Nevertheless, heavy to very heavy rains are ruled out as the weather system is frail in nature and steadily fading away. The intensity of rain is most likely to decrease after 24 hours. Days would remain warm and humid over Chennai, while nights would remain comfortable.

Around January 13, we can expect isolated rain activity over the city of Chennai. Moreover, Northeast Monsoon is estimated to formally end during the next few days.
