A new system of train fares, known as flexi-fare is being adopted for the Premium Trains by the Indian Railways.

In this system, once every 10% of reservation gets completed, the fare will be up by 10%. The Railway Board a special review committee to review the system. This committee conducted the review and submitted a report to the Indian Railway Board.

The report recommends adopting the fare system being used by the airline services and hotels. In case the Indian Railway Board accepts this recommendation, this will be implemented.

The main aspects of the recommendations:

Presently, an additional fare is being charged for the front seats on the plane. In a similar way, the Railway should charge extra for the lower berths being booked. This fare should be revised upwards, especially in trains with huge popular support and the trains which are of convenient timings to the public.

The train ticket fares should be increased during the festive seasons. The train fares should be reduced in the non-festive seasons.

A premium charge should be added to the trains where catering coach is attached.

The train ticket fares should be reduced for the trains which function on inconvenient timings for the passengers to reach their destinations, between 12.00 midnight to 4.00 AM  or 1.00 PM to 5.00 PM.
